Description:
Woodcut from 1507 from the 'Legenda Aurea'. A bust of Bernard is shown in the lower half of the initial 'B' at the opening of the text of the chapter on Bernard. A bust of the crowned Virgin and Child, with rays suggesting that they are suspended in the sky, is featured in the upper half of the initial. The woodcut is rather primitive, and it is not absolutely clear whether this is a Lactation scene although it seems likely.
