Description:
Study by Raphael in pen and brown ink with brown wash heightened with white body colour for his 'Madonna del Baldacchino' commissioned by Ranieri di Bernardino Dei in his will dated 20 July 1506 for his family chapel in S.Spirito, Florence. The Virgin and Child are enthroned between St Peter, Bernard, St Augustine, and St Augustine. Corresponds fairly closely with the painting - see PA123 - but is severely oxidised. For other studies see DR11 & DR12.
